The British version of Big Brother is one of the longest running in the
world and one of the most popular. Hosted
initially by Davina McCall and now Brian Dowling, it proved to be an instant ratings winner for Channel
4 before moving to Channel 5 in 2011. The show got itself into trouble by allowing the racist bullying of
Shilpa Shetty by housemates Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd
in Celebrity Big Brother 2006 but won praise for acting swiftly to
kick out housemate Emily Parr when she used an offensive racist term
against black girl Charley in the house in BB8.
